my way’s not very sportsmanlike

march madness has been over for a while, but for those of you who still need a bracket fix, check out MSNBC’s Comedy Movie March Madness.

my final four were Raising Arizona, Blues Brothers, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, and The Princess Bride. for me, Princess Bride won in a 108-32 blowout. figuratively speaking.

the actual winner for the whole thing, according to MSNBC readers who mailed in their results, is Monty Python & the Holy Grail.

“Oops” old school

: Cacophony :

First, check out a pseudo-Louis Armstrong rendition of “Oops!...I Did It Again”. HI-larious.

Then, click the links from this World of Wonder article on Max Rabbe & Palast Orchester, who give a Kurt-Weill-ish take on covers of Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, Eiffel-65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”, and of course, “Oops!...I Did It Again”.

(Props to Andrew Sullivan of Time magazine and The New Republic.)

y’know, there’s a part of me that’s like, “is this really all that satirical? i’m not sure i can tell the difference between it and the real thing.”

John L. Allen, Jr.: Vatican STUD

: Catholicism :

It’s been a bit funny, over the past few days, reading Slate and watching CNN and listening to NPR. Ninety percent of the time, one of the major analysts you’ll hear on the coverage of Pope John Paul II’s death is the Vatican correspondent from the National Catholic Reporter, John Allen.

Heck, why not just go straight to the source?  wink

NCR’s special coverage of the pope’s death and the upcoming papal election has a number of articles by Allen. They include the best papal obituary on the web, as well as a list and overview of the top 20 papabili.
