Coffeehouse posting #3
Can you think of a better time of year to be jobless? It has been gorgeous lately. I've been so busy trying to figure my life out... but I am making sure to take time to enjoy this too.
I spent all yesterday afternoon and evening gardening. (After spending the morning finalizing my resume.) Splitting my neighbors perennials, with her permission, and replanting them in my front beds and my new back garden. Yay! Playing with plants! Today, I went to the zoo with my stay-at-home-mom friend and her 16 mos old. She's a waddle toddler and just so damn cute looking at the animals! Now, I am borrowing my friend's computer to wifi job search from a coffeehouse where I am sitting outside. Wow. Not bad eh?
On the other hand, I can't help but get just a little satisfaction at what must be my former boss's current issues right now. It's quite possible that she had someone waiting to take my place. In that case, she's trying to train someone right now. But I'm pretty sure that isn't the case at all. SO...
It's a horrible time of year for her not to have someone in my position- or even to be training someone unseasoned in school PR. It made the most sense as a time to fire me. Negotiations for next year just finished and contracts would soon be put together. Our year starts July 1 because we are a school district. O'kay. Let's put our reasons together in order to fire Kristen and that way we can get someone new in here that we can retrain as we want and pay less. And okay, I was slacking too. I wasn't happy. BUT...
The end of the school year is BUSY! We were just beginning to plan the staff retirement dinner. All the programs and contests and projects are being finished in the schools. There are more events to attend and press releases to write and media to talk to than ever. Then when school ends, things get REALLY busy. What? You say? Try getting ready everything that teachers and principals and administrators need for the next school year. And getting it done by mid-July because it has to be printed and distributed before schools starts. Calendars, pamphlets, class record books, curriculum guides, more letterhead, business cards, enevelopes and supplies. It's maddening.
hehehehehe
hahahahahaha
ehhm, ehhm, ehhm
sigh....
I don't wish anyone ill. There's a lot I will miss about the job. And some people too.
Anyway, I have decided to not rush as long as I can handle it monetarily. I really want to find something that will make me happy. And be a little picky. Not about money, just about being content there. And right now... I am quite happy feeling free and challenged. My friend told me this morning that she didn't think she had ever heard me sound so light... That says a lot doesn't it?
Posted by kristen at April 19, 2005 04:52 PMHey Kristen,
Apparently webster university is hiring for marketing/PR: here's the listing through higheredjobs.com -
http://www.higheredjobs.com/state/details.cfm?JobCode=175129013
(if that doesn't come through, go to the Webster website).
Just FYI...
