Through the Lens

When I was hired at my job, my major responsibilties were pretty clear cut. I was the writer. I wrote the press releases, yes, but writing full-length stories for our publications was my focus. I also took photographs to accompany the stories. This put me out in the schools a lot. And I loved it. The way the kids would want to cheese for the camera and chase me around to ensure I captured them on film. So endearing.

But my job has changed a lot. With education budget cuts being so severe, we don't publish those stories anymore. We can't afford to put out the newsletters. And with the loss of our graphic artist, I am doing more layout and design than writing, much less taking photos.

Fortunately, today I got to go to an elementary school to take photos of our District's Teacher of the Year. And soon I get to go down to another school where Show Me St. Louis is featuring another teacher. Sigh. The good old days.

Anyway, I don't claim to have a ton of talent when it comes to photography. I have never had any training at all. But I think I have a decent eye and I DEFINITELY have great material. So I am going to post a few of my favorite recent photos. They don't do justice to all I have taken over the last 3 years. Most of my very favorites are not scanned into this computer. But it at least gives an idea of what I do.

One of my favorite photos. I actually have a copy on my fridge.

Local groups raised money to supply safety helmets and vests to every patroller after one of our students was killed.
