vrooom!

So I had a good weekend this past weekend and just wanted to brag to all of you [namely Stephen] that I was at this race and saw this moment with my own eyes from my seat at the racetrack:

It was so cool, but so heartbreaking! The crowd was totally hoping for a Andretti victory. Oh well, I guess there is always next year.

  1. Nice!!!!

That was one exciting race - I was hoping for Marco to win as well - he should have cut Hornish off, nascar style!

Now if only Alonso and Renault would stop winning F1 races.....

  2. I was rooting for Marco, too.  That would have been such a great story.  I think I’ve always had a bit of an aversion to the Penske cars...especially the Marlboro ones and their cigarette ways.  The one consolation in Hornish winning is he’s from Defiance, OH...just one county up from Putnum County, Jen!!  That’s kind of exciting, anyway.  Defiance is having a good go of it lately...first the book (and then movie) “The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio” and now the Indy 500 champ.

I was just reminiscing this past weekend about getting to march around the Indy 500 track way back in 1993 during the pre-race parade.  Carrying a snare drum around a slanty 2.5 mile track on a hot morning in a full polyester band uniform may sound not so ideal, but it was a ton of fun.

  3. Ha! My mom said the same thing David! “I hope you were at least happy for Sam. He’s from Defiance.” And yeah, happy for Sam, but someone on Fark.com described Sam as “The Phil Mickelson of the Indy 500—he lost so many times that everyone was just rooting for him to win.” Ah....that would actually be Michael Andretti. Idiot.

Stephen—the good news about Indy is that they tape delay the race here so I was able to TiVo the Monaco Grand Prix and then the 500 that night. Don’t get me started on Schumi. That idiot could have won that race if he wasn’t such a schmuck. He was on TV saying he didn’t purposely park his car on the track during practice so everyone had to slow down ensuring him the pole. He in fact said “People who know my driving can decide for myself.” You mean like when you ran your car into Damon Hill so you would both crash and ensure yourself the championship? Michael is a great driver but also an arrogant bastard who needs to just stop being an ass sometimes.

And that’s my F1 rant for today. Don’t get me started on how possibly moving the race to Las Vegas next year is a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad idea. Because it is.

  4. I totally agree - I’m not a fan of Schumacher. Maybe Ferrari can get Nigel Mansell’s fat ass out of retirement to drive again.

And I can’t stand the thought of an F1 race in Vegas either. It’s too bad someone can’t build a real track in this country -the closest track I can think of that could actually support an F1 race is Laguna Seca, and that’s stretching it quite a bit.
